I used to really enjoy Melissa Marr's faerie books, but there were to many characters that didn't get enough story time to not cause them to drag the plot down some. The first part of the story jumped around enough that it was hard to keep the characters straight in their worlds and how they knew each other. Second half was easier to follow because the characters were closer together physical. I really wanted to like this book, But I just ended up being confused.....

Now, I went into this book with lukewarm expectations. Many people have said that The Host is actually better written than The Twilight "Saga", which isn't really 100% accurate. I felt that this could have been an incredible book. I mean Advanced aliens who call themselves “souls” that conquer Earth by implanting themselves into their human hosts and taking over their bodies....... Yeah, it’s a “body snatcher” theme. The alien who calls herself Wanderer has lived nine different lives on nine different planets as nine different sentient species…I really wanted to like this like I did with The Twilight Saga. I mean try to imagine the a love triangle, only NO ONE is a vampire or werewolf.... Wheres the fun in that??? AND.... The main part of this love... Prism ... is two people in one body. Whoa!!! Yes, there is a very disturbing love triangular Prism type thing between Melanie/Jared and Wanderer/Ian (Melanie and Wanderer being in the same body/mind.) Ugh yeaaaa... NO! Like I said, COULD HAVE BEEN! My least favorite SM book by far. I'll take Jacob/Bella/Edward love triangle any day. Imma go re-read Breaking Dawn again...... It'll make me feel better
I absolutely LOVED this book! Margaret Daley did an absolutely amazing job crafting characters and evoking true emotion in this story. She wrote a flawless story that was woven together with romance, faith, and healing.
In the story Kathleen Somer's is a ballerina. She worked hard her whole life to be part of the New York Ballet company--and unlike many dancers who work just as hard, she actually made it. But then the unthinkable happens. Before her debut performance, a tragic accident brings a screeching halt to her career she worked so hard for. What kind of a life can there be for a one-legged ballerina in a one-horse town? That's the question Margaret Daley answers in her book. It's a Love Inspired Romance that took just a few hours to read, it was hard to set it down and do necessary chores lol. I highly recommend picking up a copy and reading this one for yourself. |
